It’s not clear to me how much this is penetrating the general public consciousness: the Americans did not “give the Ukraine permission to launch missiles into Russia.” The Ukrainians cannot fire these missile systems. Therefore, the Americans gave themselves permission to launch missiles into Russia.

Maybe some Ukrainian guy pushes the button, but the missiles are totally worthless without the US providing the coordinates. This has been going on since the beginning of the war inside the Ukraine. It’s not a situation of “you had a man a gun and he fires it,” it’s “you have a cripple in a wheelchair and you put his finger on the trigger and pull his finger back.”

These are American-run bases with American operatives firing the missiles. This is an American attack on Russia.

It’s the first time America has ever attacked the Russian homeland and it is the first time since World War II that anyone has attacked the Russian homeland.

People do not really appear to grasp the severity of this situation, and the fact that it is happening in Biden’s “lame duck” period makes it one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen in geopolitics.

Putin fired a new missile and then gave a speech about how he’s going to start attacking European countries.

The missle was a demonstration of what he can do to European sites that are involved in the war in the Ukraine.

This whole thing Biden is doing on the way out (which is illegal, but whatever, most of what the government does is illegal) is designed to force Putin to escalate before Trump takes over.

The Russian military has launched a state-of-the-art intermediate-range ballistic missile against a Ukrainian target, President Vladimir Putin said in a public address on Thursday.

As part of what the president called a “combat test,” the hypersonic missile, dubbed ‘Oreshnik’ (‘Hazel’), successfully struck a military industrial facility in the Ukrainian city of Dnepropetrovsk (known as Dnipro in Ukraine), Putin added.

The strike was a response to Ukrainian attacks on military facilities located on internationally recognized Russian territory, the president stated. Kiev’s forces launched the strikes on Tuesday and Thursday, using US-made ATACMS and HIMARS systems as well as British-made Storm Shadow missiles, he said.

The president also vowed to publicly announce any future strikes against the Ukrainian targets involving the ‘Oreshnik’ system “for humanitarian reasons” to let civilians leave a potentially dangerous zone. The announcements would not affect the effectiveness of the strikes, he added. A ballistic missile travelling at between 2.5 and 3 kilometers per second, or 10 times faster than the speed of sound, cannot be countered with any existing air defense systems, Putin said.

Russia is still ready to “resolve all the differences in a peaceful way,” the president said, adding that Moscow is still “also ready for any developments” and one should not doubt that “there will always be a response.”

The missile is way overpowered for a Ukraine strike.

The entire point, as Putin said in his address, is to show NATO countries that he has the ability to fire missiles at them that they have no ability to counter.

This is such a mess. Although it is sort of hilarious.

Putin has to respond, because there are people in Moscow going nuts demanding he do more in this war. The goal of the Biden people was to force his hand, to force him to attack some NATO base outside of the Ukraine. It’s possible he can do this demonstration and then do a massive strike on the Ukraine, taking out bridges and power supplies, maybe doing strikes on Kiev to wipe out top government officials.

But it’s a long way to January 20th. A lot can happen.

The Biden people are determined to get Russia to attack a NATO base, and there is a lot more they can do to provoke that.

The Ukrainian military has launched multiple US-made ATACMS missiles at Russia’s Bryansk Region, some of which have been intercepted, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.

US President Joe Biden reportedly authorized the use of American-supplied weapons for strikes deep inside Russia last week. Moscow had previously said that long-range strikes with Western weapons would constitute a direct war between NATO and Russia.

According to the statement, Kiev fired six long-range ballistic missiles identified as ATACMS early on Tuesday morning. Five of them were intercepted with S-400 and Pantsir air defense systems, while another was damaged and hit the ground at a Russian military site in Bryansk Region, causing a fire that was quickly dealt with. The Russian military claimed that no damage was caused by the incident.

The ball is in Russia’s court now.


Russia said that this means that they are at war with NATO, and it’s up to them to decide whether or not they’re going to declare war against NATO.

Probably, they will not escalate that quickly, but we are now on a ladder of escalation. The Biden people have plenty of time before Trump takes over to really create a massive mess.

What the hell is “hybrid warfare”?

These media and government people just throw around jargon that they know no one understands and which doesn’t even have any meaningful meaning.

The US state department said it was “incredibly” concerned about Russia’s campaign of hybrid warfare against the west, amid fears it will escalate following Ukraine’s first use of US-made long-range missiles on targets inside Russia, after the Biden administration lifted restrictions on their use.

Russia has promised an “appropriate” response to the new policy, and has engaged in nuclear sabre-rattling by changing its nuclear doctrine in recent days. However, western officials believe the thrust of the Russian response may come not on the battlefield in Ukraine but elsewhere in the world.

Potential hybrid attacks could span a wide menu of options, including expanding its campaign of sabotage and assassinations in Europe or further arming US adversaries in the Middle East and Indo-Pacific regions, according to people briefed on the discussions about a potential Russian response.

What sabotage and assassinations have there been?

In terms of arming the Middle East – that was likely to happen regardless, and already was happening.

European ministers discussed Russia’s asymmetric warfare during a meeting in Brussels on Tuesday, where the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom accused Russia in a joint statement of “systematically attacking European security architecture”.

Oh so it’s also “asymmetric warfare”? Is there any jargon terminology that Russia is not being accused of?

What security infrastructure did Russia attack? If these attacks are “systematic,” it seems like they should be obvious to everyone. Unless they are totally ineffective?

What does any of this even mean?

Speaking in Washington, the US state department spokesperson Matthew Miller said: “Generally, we are incredibly concerned about hybrid warfare conducted by Russia both in Europe and around the world, and its something we have been in close coordination with our European allies and other allies and partners around the world.” Referring to the recent sabotage to two under-sea fibre-optic communication cables in the Baltic Sea, Miller added that Russia would be “held accountable” for further such actions.

Russia may choose to delay a further escalation ahead of the inauguration of Donald Trump, who has threatened to cut aid to Ukraine and broker a peace deal that is strongly expected to favour Russia.

No source on that last sentence. Just an assertion by The Guardian.

The US is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians in Gaza, so it’s not really surprising they would be doing the same in the Ukraine.

What is incredible is that many of the people opposed to the slaughter in Gaza apparently support the Ukraine slaughter.

How can Joe Biden be “Genocide Joe” in Gaza but the hero of global democracy when killing Russians?

Then of course there are Americans who are against Biden’s actions in the Ukraine, but support the massacre in Gaza.

Russia said on Sunday that the United States was responsible for a Ukrainian attack on the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula with five U.S.-supplied missiles that killed at least five people including three children and injured 124 more.

The Russian Defence Ministry said four of the U.S.-delivered Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles, equipped with cluster warheads, were shot down by air defence systems and the ammunition of a fifth had detonated in mid-air.

The ministry said U.S. specialists had set the missiles’ flight coordinates on the basis of information from U.S. spy satellites, meaning Washington was directly responsible.

“Responsibility for the deliberate missile attack on the civilians of Sevastopol is borne above all by Washington, which supplied these weapons to Ukraine, and by the Kyiv regime, from whose territory this strike was carried out,” the ministry said.

The United States began supplying Ukraine with longer range ATACMS missiles, which have a 300-km range, earlier this year.

At least 124 were injured, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said. The injured included 27 children, five of whom are in a serious condition, authorities said.

Russia will respond to Sunday’s attack, the Defence Ministry said, without elaborating. The Kremlin said President Vladimir Putin has been “in constant contact with the military” since the attack on Sevastopol.

The United States in recent weeks secretly shipped long-range missiles to Ukraine for use in its battle to fight off Russian invaders, and Ukraine has now used them twice, a U.S. official said on Wednesday.

The missiles were contained in a $300 million military aid package for Ukraine that U.S. President Joe Biden approved on March 12, said the U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity. The official would not say how many of the missiles were sent.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan, at a briefing for reporters, confirmed that a “significant number” of the missiles had been sent to Ukraine and said “we will send more.”

He said Ukraine has committed to only use the weapons inside Ukraine, not in Russia.

Some of the missiles were contained in a $1 billion weapons package for Ukraine that President Joe Biden approved on Wednesday, Sullivan said.

The missiles were used for the first time in the early hours of April 17, launched against a Russian airfield in Crimea that was about 165 km (103 miles) from the Ukrainian front lines, the official said.

The official said Ukraine used the weapon a second time overnight against Russian forces in southeastern Ukraine.

Whether to send the Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) with a range up to 300 km was a subject of debate within the Biden administration for months. Mid-range ATACMS were supplied last September.

The Pentagon initially opposed the long-range missile deployment, fearing the loss of the missiles from the American stockpile would hurt U.S. military readiness. There were also concerns that Ukraine would use them to attack targets deep inside Russia.

Yes, they are going to use them to murder civilians deep inside Russia. There is a 100% chance of that, and everyone knows it.
