The Air Force has reached an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency to address contaminated drinking water in Tucson, Arizona, despite recent legal attempts to shirk responsibility.

The EPA announced Tuesday that the Air Force was finally in compliance with an emergency order issued in May telling the service to clean up contaminated groundwater around Tucson International Airport. In the 1980s, a 10-square-mile area around the airport, including nearby military facilities such as Air Force Plant 44 and Morris Air National Guard Base, was designated as a Superfund site.

Trichloroethylene and 1,4-dioxane have been previously detected, as well as more recent concentrations of PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances known as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down easily and build up in the body. Those chemicals have also been tied to health risks such as various cancers, high cholesterol and liver damage, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Everyone living in the United States deserves to be able to drink safe water, without fear of contamination from PFAS and other harmful pollutants,” EPA Assistant Administrator for Enforcement and Compliance Assurance David Uhlmann said in a news release. “We welcome the efforts by the Air Force to meet its obligations to service members and the residents of Tucson.”

The Air Force’s Wednesday statement failed to acknowledge, however, its efforts this summer to buck responsibility for the EPA’s emergency order.

In a July letter responding to the EPA, which Military.com reported on, Air Force lawyers leaned on a landmark Supreme Court decision this summer — Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo — that ultimately reduced the power of regulatory agencies by pushing an interpretation of vague or confusing laws to the courts, ending a practice often referred to as “Chevron deference.”

Even if the EPA is able to make this ruling, they have no ability to enforce it.

There are poisonous chemicals in everyone’s water, and bottled water is not much better. Even if the bottled water is properly cleaned, it all comes in plastic, which leeches into the water.

Brittany Zamora — known for her blonde locks — is now spending her 20-year prison sentence as a brunette.

The new mugshot from Perryville prison in Arizona shows the depraved ex-elementary school teacher smiling for the camera in an orange jumper with her brunette waves pulled into a ponytail.

The then-blonde sexual predator appeared to be crying in a lacy white top in her original mugshot taken upon her arrest in March 2018 after being accused of molesting her sixth-grade student.

The parents of the boy found out that Zamora was having sex with their son after they began monitoring his phone with an app. The victim told investigators that he and the then-married 27-year-old had sex several times in her car and classroom.

A towering nude statue depicting former President Donald Trump appeared in central Phoenix on Thursday.

The mysterious traveling figure first surfaced in Las Vegas earlier this week. It is titled “Crooked and Obscene,” according to a news release from the people taking credit for its creation.

“The title reflects the controversial aspects attributed to both the figure represented and the nature of the installation itself,” the release reads. “By unveiling a nude marionette of Donald Trump in an unexpected setting, the project aims to provoke thought and encourage open conversation about the complexities of political power and leadership.”

It was unclear who exactly was behind the project.

I wonder who would do something like this?

Individuals with the project refused to identify themselves on Thursday near the exhibit location off Washington Street and 24th Street. The area immediately surrounding it was private property and not open to the public.

Representatives of businesses in the area, which include a cannabis dispensary, said they had nothing to do with the statue.

According to the release, the statue was made of foam and rebar, weighing close to 6,000 pounds. Some people stopped by to take photos of the more than 40-foot-tall installation.

It’s unclear when the statue will be moved next. The release indicated this was the piece’s “second stop.” Both Nevada and Arizona are considered battleground states in the general election Nov. 5.

There should really be more confusing, creepy gigantic statues, generally.

A male inmate in an Arizona jail was caught on camera crawling past a security guard to get to the female side of the facility – where he later confessed that he planned to “rape” a female inmate, according to court documents.

Justin Avery, 29, was in custody for allegedly sexually assaulting five women near Arizona State University’s Tempe campus when surveillance caught him sneaking past an oblivious guard at 4 a.m., according to footage obtained by ABC15.

Avery, wearing a bright orange jail jumpsuit, was seen dropping to the ground and scooting on his behind to get from the busy male side of the Maricopa County intake facility to the much quieter female side, the outlet said.

He later admitted he “snuck over like a spider” because he was attracted by a female inmate’s “fat a–,” according to court documents obtained by ABC15.

When Avery made it to the women’s side, he crept up behind a sleeping female inmate and lowered his pants — later admitting he planned to “rape” her, according to the court docs.

However, he was stopped when another woman saw him and screamed, “Hey, get off of her,” the court docs said.

Justice was served.

But something tells me we haven’t heard the last of Lil Crabby.

Rebekah Massie, 32, was speaking out against a proposed $12,000 raise for Surprise City Attorney Robert Wingo — who reportedly already earns $266,000 annually — at a city council meeting on Aug. 20, when she was cut off by Mayor Skip Hall.

Hall accused Massie of violating a city rule that bars people from using their time at the podium to “lodge charges or complaints against any employee of the city or members of the body,” according to azcentral.com

“That’s all fine and good, but that’s a violation of my First Amendment rights,” Massie shot back.

In the majority opinion, the state’s chief justice, Ann Scott Timmer, concluded that the measures in the proposal amount to “responses to harms relating to an unsecured border”.

Some advocacy organizations and Arizona Democrats have said Proposition 314 demonizes immigrants and raises the specter of racial profiling.

Arizona doctors can temporarily come to California to perform abortions for their patients under a new law signed Thursday by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

California’s law is meant to give Arizonans an option to receive legal abortions from their doctor over the next several months. The move was a reaction to a recent Arizona Supreme Court decision to reinstate a law — first passed in 1864, but not enforced for decades — that bans nearly all abortions in Arizona, without exceptions for rape or incest.

The Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022 allowed states to set their own abortion laws. More than 20 states have since enforced abortion bans of varying degrees. In Arizona, it is still unclear exactly when — or if — the Civil War-era ban will be instituted. But the Democrats who control California’s Legislature didn’t want to take chances.

California’s new law, which takes effect immediately, allows licensed doctors in Arizona to come to California and perform abortions for their patients through the end of November.

Currently, Arizona law allows abortions up to 15 weeks of pregnancy.

Licensed Arizona doctors who want to perform abortions in California would still have to fill out an application. But if the doctors meet certain requirements, the law directs California regulators to approve their application within five business days.

“California stands ready to protect reproductive freedom,” Newsom said.

He vowed to make the state a “ sanctuary ” for people in other states seeking abortions. California has passed dozens of laws to protect abortion access, including setting aside $20 million in taxpayer money to help pay for patients in other states to travel to California to get an abortion.

The Arizona Senate voted on Wednesday to repeal the state’s 1864 ban on abortion, which could otherwise have taken effect within weeks.

The repeal was passed by the Senate in a 16-14 vote and is expected to be quickly signed by Governor Katie Hobbs, a Democrat. Two Republican senators crossed party lines to vote in favor of repealing the ban.

The Arizona House last week passed the measure after a handful of Republicans broke party ranks and voted with Democrats to send it to the Senate.

“We’re here to repeal a bad law,” Senator Eva Burch, a Democrat, said from the floor. “I don’t want us honoring laws about women, written during a time when women were forbidden from voting.”

Republican Senator Wendy Rogers said in casting her vote to maintain the 1864 ban that repealing the law went against the conservative values of Arizona.

“Life starts at conception. They got it right in 1864. We need to continue to get it right in 2024,” Rogers said.

The 1864 law was revived by a state Supreme Court ruling on April 9, and unless the legislature intervened, it could have taken effect within 60 days of that ruling, state Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, has said.
