Husna Ibrahim Arbab had already lost her son in the early days of Sudan’s civil war – burned to death in his tent after it was set on fire – when she was apprehended by militia aligned with the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group while fleeing west towards the border with Chad.

A bullet flew by close to her head, the 24-year-old said. Five male relatives were separated from the group she was travelling with, taken to a creek, and shot in the chest.

“If you are black, you are finished,” is how Arbab described her experience of the ethnically targeted violence that has swept through Darfur for the second time this century.

Accounts of massacres perpetrated by the RSF and allied Arab militias emerged shortly after war broke out in April 2023 between the RSF and the regular army, the Sudanese Armed Forces, and its allied groups. Much of what the outside world has learned about the atrocities has been relayed by survivors from refugee camps in Adré, across the border in Chad.

Speaking in Adré, Arbab said that sometimes members of her Bargo ethnic group were spared violence, and sometimes they weren’t. “The militia tested us [darker skinned people] on our language,” she said. “If you could speak Bargo then sometimes you were let go. If you couldn’t, you were killed.”

The US said on Tuesday it had determined that genocide was being perpetrated by the RSF and its allies and that it was imposing sanctions on the RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo – known as Hemedti.

The RSF and the SAF have been accused of committing war crimes during the war, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives. The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, said in a statement that “both belligerents bear responsibility for the violence and suffering in Sudan and lack the legitimacy to govern a future peaceful Sudan”. However, Blinken said the RSF and its allies were responsible for a pattern of systematic ethnic violence in which civilians were killed as they tried to flee fighting and access to essential supplies was blocked.

In 2004, the US had declared that the RSF’s forerunner – the notorious Janjaweed militias – had committed genocide in Darfur in the early 2000s. Then, as now, the violence was directed against darker-skinned, non-Arab groups.

Some of the most serious allegations relating to the RSF have once again focused on Darfur, where up to 15,000 people died in well-documented attacks on the city of Geneina in 2023 that targeted the non-Arab Masalit and other ethnic groups.

Naima Mugadam, another member of the Bargo group, told the Guardian in Adré that two of her brothers had been killed because of their ethnicity in Geneina. The men who killed her brothers also beat her up, she said, leaving her unable to move for three days. “Telling them that I was not a Masalit did not protect me from being attacked,” she said. “I was beaten and humiliated, and lucky not to be raped.”

Tens of thousands of people have been killed and more than 8 million internally displaced since the war began, making Sudan the scene of the world’s largest internal displacement crisis. The UN says more than 30 million people – over half of them children – are in need of aid.

Tunisian anti-terrorist investigators are handling the case of a leading advocate for migrants who has been taken into custody, in what the head of a rights group said was a troubling first for the country.

Abdallah Said, a Tunisian of Chadian origin, was questioned along with the secretary general and treasurer of his association, Enfants de la Lune, said Romdhane Ben Amor, the spokesperson for the Tunisian Forum for Social and Economic Rights.

According to La Presse newspaper, which is close to the Tunisian government, Said’s association is suspected of receiving foreign funds “to assist sub-Saharan migrants to enter illegally on to Tunisian soil”. Tunisia is one of the main launching points for boats carrying people trying to cross the Mediterranean to seek better lives in Europe.

In May the Tunisian president, Kais Saied, lashed out at organisations that defended the rights of migrants, calling their leaders “traitors and mercenaries”. Saied, who has overseen a sweeping crackdown on undocumented black people living in Tunisia, won a second term as president last month in a vote with turnout of just 28.8%.

Tunisia has received large funds from the EU in exchange for help with curbing small boat crossings to Europe, under an agreement signed last year.

In 2023, the Guardian revealed how thousands of people from sub-Saharan Africa had been forcibly returned by Tunisian officers to remote desert regions where some died of thirst. Last month a Guardian investigation revealed abuses by EU-funded security forces in Tunisia, including allegations that members of the Tunisian national guard were raping migrant women and beating children.

The United States on Tuesday imposed sanctions on what it said was a key international fundraiser for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which Washington has designated a terrorist organization.

The U.S. Treasury Department, in action taken with Canada, said in a statement it imposed sanctions on the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, accusing it of being “a sham charity that serves as an international fundraiser” for the PFLP.

The PFLP, which has also taken part in the fight against Israel in Gaza, was designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the U.S. in October 1997 and October 2001, respectively.

The Treasury said PFLP uses Samidoun to fundraise in Europe and North America. The group’s activities were banned by Germany last year.

The Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network did not respond immediately to a Reuters request for comment.

A member of the PFLP’s leadership abroad was also targeted with sanctions on Tuesday.

Canada announced the listing of Samidoun as a terrorist entity on Tuesday. “Violent extremism, acts of terrorism or terrorist financing have no place in Canadian society or abroad,” Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc said in a statement announcing the listing.

At least, that is the case now. They are under full assault, so you’d think if they had the ability to blow something up in Israel, they would be doing it now.

The mayor of the first US city to have an all-Muslim city council has endorsed former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

Amer Ghalib, the mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, announced his endorsement in a Facebook post Sunday, just days after meeting the Republican candidate in person.

“I believe he is the right choice for this critical time,” Ghalib said of Trump, calling him “a man of principles.”

“I’ll not regret my decision no matter what the outcome would be, and I’m ready to face the consequences,” Ghalib wrote.

Trump later reposted Ghalib’s remarks on Truth Social.

The 45-year-old mayor met with Trump for 20 minutes on Tuesday in Flint, Michigan, where the former president asked the mayor for his endorsement, Ghalib told the Detroit News.

“[Trump] knew a lot about me before the meeting,” he said

“We talked about various topics including the debates, the polls updates, the statistics of votes in Michigan and Wayne County, the Arab American concerns and the Yemeni Americans in particular,” Ghalib continued.

Ghalib, an immigrant from Yemen, was elected as the first Muslim mayor of Hamtramck in 2021.

Alongside other Muslim city council candidates, Hamtramck became the first city in the country with a Muslim-majority city council in 2015.

When Ghalib came into office, voters elected an all-Muslim city council in the roughly 2-square-mile city of 28,000 residents, according to the Detroit Free Press.

If he’s Yemeni, this is even more hardcore. Trump was very supportive of sending unlimited (infinity) weapons to the Saudis to kill starving Yemeni children. That situation was fixed by China, who went in and did a peace negotiation between Saudi and Iran. Biden was going to maintain the war indefinitely as well, of course.

It would be an interesting election if voting was real. Unfortunately, voting is not real. Jews just choose a candidate through their mail-in ballot scam system.

I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but the US taxpayer is paying for the collapsed Israeli economy as well as their military, just like they are doing with the Ukraine.

Some 40,000 Israeli companies have closed their doors since October, amid expectations that the number will rise to 60,000 by the end of the year, Israel’s Maariv newspaper said yesterday.

The Israeli paper cited data from the CEO of business information company CofaceBDI, Yoel Amir, saying: “This is a very high number that includes many sectors.”

The vast majority, 77 per cent, of the companies are small businesses which are most vulnerable.

He pointed out that the most affected sectors are construction and related industries such as ceramics, air conditioning, aluminium and building materials.

While trade, including fashion, furniture and household appliances and the service sector, including cafes, entertainment and entertainment services, and transportation have also been hit hard.

One person has died and four others were injured after an African man detonated an explosive device outside a restaurant in the German city of Solingen on Tuesday.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. outside residential and commercial premises on Konrad-Adenauer-Straße in the North Rhine-Westphalia city.

German news outlet Junge Freiheit reported the targeted restaurant was an independent chain owned by a large Arab family and the perpetrator was of African origin.

It is understood the attacker approached the restaurant equipped with explosives but detonated the device too early, seriously injuring himself and other bystanders.

“He took something out of the front of his pants. That looked like an explosive device. Then he probably accidentally spilled a liquid, then there was a big bang and the man burned. Witnesses then extinguished it and administered first aid,” one eyewitness told German tabloid newspaper Bild.

According to a press release by Wuppertal Police late on Tuesday, the attacker “suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to a special clinic in a rescue helicopter where he died a few hours later.”

The authorities also confirmed that a 7-year-old girl and three males aged 35, 38, and 45, were hospitalized after being injured by shrapnel from the blast.

A second Ukrainian teen refugee has died after succumbing to injuries sustained in a frenzied knife attack in the German city of Oberhausen by a migrant gang earlier this month.

Artem Kozachenko, an 18-year-old Ukrainian national, was hospitalized with multiple stab wounds after he and his teammates from a local basketball team were set upon by foreign youths on the evening of Sunday, Feb. 11, as they returned home from practice.

His friend, 17-year-old Volodymyr Yermakov, died at the scene while Kozachenko was rushed for emergency treatment. Despite initially surviving the attack, he has now died.

“Artem has been in intensive care at the hospital since the brutal attack in Oberhausen,” wrote ART Giants, the local basketball team both teens played for, on Instagram. “Unfortunately, over the past few days, his condition deteriorated so significantly that doctors could do nothing more for him,” it added.

News of the stabbings was first reported by the Kyiv Basketball Federation in a social media post on the evening of the attack, in which they claimed the young basketball players “were attacked with knives on the street just because they were Ukrainians.”

The federation added that, according to preliminary information, “the criminals are eight young people of Arab appearance.”
