South African farms deemed “too white” will no longer be able to export their produce to the U.K. and the EU, according to postings in the Government Gazette, the Johannesburg-based City Press newspaper reported.

Under the rules, farmers must meet specific Black economic empowerment targets to continuing obtaining export permits.

The guidelines will apply to agricultural businesses with a minimum annual turnover of 10 million South African rand ($534,000) or more. Milk, cream, butter, fruit, nuts, sugar, jam, fruit puree, fruit juices, yeast, table grapes and wine are among the products affected, according to the notice.

Southern African Agri Initiative (Saai), a farmers’ lobbying group, told City Press that the rules will undermine investor security, job creation and growth in the nation’s agricultural sector.

Democratic Alliance, the biggest opposition party in South Africa, lodged a complaint with the trade offices of the EU and the U.K., arguing that the regulations violate the rules of fair trade. South Africa’s agreements with the EU and the U.K. are explicitly premised upon protecting human rights, democratic principles and the rule of law, the alliance said.

South African companies have been encouraged to adopt Black-empowerment plans to comply with government policies aimed at redressing financial inequality stemming from the apartheid era.

You’d think by this point the normal blacks in South Africa would be sick of this shit. How much has their quality of life dropped since the revolution? The drop is massive, and presumably incalculable.

If this law is real and if it’s actually implemented, it’s going to crush the farmers, and force them to sell and flee the country. “Black empowerment” is unobtainable. It’s like the gender pay gap. It’s a hoax, a demand for a solution to a problem that isn’t real.

The entirety of Western civilization is now based on lunatic attempts to solve non-existent problems, and it’s all going to end very badly.

At least the revolutionary blacks in South Africa pushed some of the whites to start getting serious about things.

This is a very interesting article from the Guardian’s Simon Allison.

In theory, “racism” was an exclusively white phenomenon. It was later discovered that Asians were also very racist. However, that was explained as “Asians are a part of white supremacy because they are similar to whites in several ways.”

When you get into “black on black racial hatred,” you begin to very seriously confuse the liberal reader. This results in a lot of words being used to overcomplicate a situation which would be very straightforward for someone who does not believe in “racism.”

Once again, we salute the Guardian for covering a story that the NYT and WaPo will not touch.

An anti-migrant vigilante organisation in South Africa has registered as a political party and plans to contest seats in next year’s general elections.

Operation Dudula, whose name means “to force out” in Zulu, wants all foreign nationals who are in the country unofficially to be deported.

The party, which first emerged in Johannesburg’s Soweto township after riots in 2021, claims to have widespread support, with a formal presence in seven of South Africa’s nine provinces. It claims to be planning to stand candidates in 1,500 of the country’s 4,468 voting districts.

Many Operation Dudula followers have faced allegations of hate speech and physical violence. They have staged protests outside embassies, turned people away outside hospitals to prevent foreign nationals from accessing state medical services, and conducted door-to-door searches of businesses in poorer areas demanding to see identity documents.

In August, Philani Gumede, a 36-year-old from Durban, was convicted of hate speech after sending a voice-note to members calling on them to evict foreigners from businesses in the city. Nomalungelo Ntshangase, a regional court prosecutor, told the court that this had led directly to xenophobic attacks and looting.

In 2022, Operation Dudula followers camped outside Kalafong hospital in Atteridgeville, a suburb of South Africa’s administrative capital, Pretoria, preventing people, including pregnant women, from entering the hospital.

“People were turned away by the protesters based on their appearance and accent,” said Sibusiso Ndlovu, a health promotion supervisor for Médecins Sans Frontières. “They have even demanded that critically ill patients who are migrants must be ‘unplugged’ and taken out.”

Civil society groups have taken the party to court over unlawful evictions and conducting unauthorised citizenship checks in public. A court date has not yet been set.

The Operation Dudula party’s spokesperson, Isaac Lesole, said the transition from civil movement to political party would mean a tempering of tactics.

“We want to demilitarise Operation Dudula. We know the military angle did not appeal to a lot of people,” he said. “Now we’ve taken a new posture, we need to guarantee that we can still achieve a lot without people being militants and killing or kicking things. As a political party, we are governed by a different set of rules.”

But its core ideology would not change, he said. “We view illegal immigrants as criminals, and they must go back to their countries.”

About 3.95 million immigrants live in South Africa, according to 2022 estimates by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS). However, there is no such thing as an “illegal foreigner” in South Africa, as its constitution – widely hailed as one of the most progressive in the world – confers limited rights upon all people within the country’s borders, regardless of nationality or birthplace.

That worked out well, didn’t it?

Operation Dudula has its roots in the riots that swept across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces in June 2021. In the absence of police, some citizens banded together to protect shops and businesses from thieves.

“You saw a lot of communities starting to self-protect. They started cordoning off malls, and protecting them from being looted. Some of these organisations also felt emboldened to have more operations, under the auspices of ‘anti-crime’,” said Lizette Lancaster, an ISS researcher.

Lancaster said the chronic failures of the state in South Africa, which has high rates of corruption, unemployment and violence, created the space for the party to thrive.

“South Africans have been trying [to hold the state accountable] through protests, but are not getting anywhere,” she said.

“It is almost natural for people to look for another scapegoat. The most obvious scapegoat would be our brothers and sisters that have come here to look for better opportunities.”

Although not expected to win any outright majorities, the fractured nature of South African politics means that small parties can influence the formation of coalition governments – anddemand major concessions in return. The current mayor of Johannesburg is from the Al Jama’ah, a fringe Islamist party that won just one of the city’s 135 wards.

Established parties are struggling to respond to Operation Dudula, with seemingly contradictory messages.

In April, President Cyril Ramaphosa called it a “vigilante-like force” taking “illegal actions” against foreigners. “These things often get out of hand,” he said. “They always mutate into wanton violence against other people.”

However, with the ruling African National Congress seeing its support eroded in recent years by a series of corruption scandals, rising inequality, high unemployment and violent crime, it has also begun to echo the rhetoric of Operation Dudula in a bid to shore up its electoral chances.

Last year an ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe, told the Mail & Guardian newspaper that Operation Dudula was affirming the views of the ANC. “These [foreign] people come here to sell drugs, seat [live] here illegally, undermine our sovereignty, create illegal business.”

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), a militant leftwing party, said in a speech in July: “South Africans are not xenophobic. [Operation Dudula] is a group of criminals who are in cahoots with some ministers. They are small boys who must be put in their place.”

However, in a sign of how politically expedient xenophobia has become in South Africa, even the ostensibly pan-Africanist EFF has campaigned for restaurants to employ more South Africans. Malema visited restaurants last year demanding to see the identity documents of workers as he demanded businesses hire locals.

Racism is not real. There is also no difference between “racism” and “xenophobia.” They are synonyms for a non-valid observation of natural human behavioral phenomenon.

Everyone just wants their own space with their own people.

This was actually the Westphalian ideal. That is to say: the fact that racism does not exist was a basic part of early “liberal” ideology. It’s a fine enough system upon which to base international law. We do not agree with the liberals nowadays, but some of the original classical liberal ideological points now seem very reasonable.

At the time, of course, Westphalian nation-states were being introduced in contrast to the idea of empires. Now, the reverse is true, in some sense. Nation-state sovereignty is being overruled by super-national entities which the mechanisms of the nation-state government are not capable of opposing.

I don’t think this will help a lot

It turns out, black communism results in even more negative results than white communism.

Although to be fair to communists, black capitalism hasn’t really worked out all that well either.

The thing blacks are really good at is this: running from lions and escaping by climbing up trees.

South Africa is enduring “load-shedding” for the third consecutive week, as Eskom, the public electricity company, has had to acknowledge major problems with maintenance and power generation capacity as the country enters the summer months.

Worse still, the company announced that “Stage 2” load-shedding would have to be “Stage 4” load-shedding instead, bringing major disruptions to companies and households still struggling to bring the economy back from the brink in the pandemic.

Twenty years ago, South African enjoyed the cheapest energy in the world, amid talk of privatizing Eskom. But the left — the intellectuals, the trade unions, and the South African Communist Party — opposed privatization on principle. Moreover, the ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), found Eskom a convenient target for its practice of “cadre deployment,” under which political operatives could be placed in key positions and cronies could be rewarded with well-remunerated jobs.

Meanwhile, aggressive policies of affirmative action, aimed at the “transformation” of South Africa, resulted in an exodus of skilled and experienced engineers, leaving Eskom and South African industry generally short of necessary human capital.

South Africa has been a brutal experiment in black rule.

Some might say the experiment was a failure.

However, if you’re the Jews who threw the communist revolution that put blacks in power, this is a big win.

Ironically, it’s not a win for the blacks themselves, who had a much better situation when white people were in charge.

Finally, we’re making some progress toward utopia by installing convicted murderers as government officials.

We have a lot of work to do before we truly end white supremacy and non-murderer supremacy, but this is truly a step in the right direction.

As the homicide rate hits a record high in Washington D.C. the city elects a convicted murderer to public office in a unique election featuring all inmate candidates. The freshly elected public official, Joel Caston, has been in prison 26 years and is currently incarcerated at the District of Columbia Jail. In 1996 Caston was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder for ambushing and killing a man in the city’s Anacostia neighborhood. Court records obtained by Judicial Watch indicate that a 2016 appeal was denied. In the document, Caston’s attorneys name the victim, which is not common practice today. Court records also reveal a “speed loader”—a device used to rapidly load ammunition into a firearm—was found by police under Caston’s mattress after the shooting. It contained six rounds of .44 caliber ammunition as well as additional rounds of ammo.

Now Caston is a commissioner on D.C.’s Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC), which advises the D.C. Council and other local government entities involving matters ranging from liquor license applications to public safety. Commissioners serve two-year terms and are elected in even-numbered years. The ANC was established to bring “government closer to the people, and to bring the people closer to government,” according to its website. Caston was chosen by voters to represent Ward 7, one of D.C.’s most crime-infested areas. It is represented by Councilman Vince Gray, an ex-D.C. mayor who was embroiled in a campaign finance scandal. The Ward 7 ANC seat has never been occupied and D.C. officials conducted an unprecedented election earlier this month to fill the post. All five candidates and the majority of voters they courted are incarcerated at the same prison with Caston, according to a local news report.

Last year the D.C. Council passed legislation allowing incarcerated convicted felons to vote. Besides D.C. only two states—Maine and Vermont—let imprisoned criminals cast ballots, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. After the measure was enacted in D.C., a group of commissioners and a nonprofit called Neighbors for Justice launched an effort to fill the empty ANC seat and pressure the local Department of Corrections to notify inmates they qualified to run for the post. Neighbors for Justice was founded in August 2020 by residents near the D.C. prison who want to support “neighbors at the jail during COVID and beyond.” The group offered all the felon candidates a forum to deliver their campaign message from their cell clad in orange prison uniforms. In the promotional campaign videos Caston is the only candidate who is not wearing the orange uniform. Instead, he appears in a white sweatshirt with a logo that reads “credible messenger.” In the short segment Caston says “my platform would be used to restore the dignity of incarcerated people that we would no longer be judged by our worst mistake and establish equality for both the male and the female population that has often been overlooked inside this space.”

Caston will be issued a laptop or tablet, an electronic mail account, and a workspace in the prison where he can dedicate eight hours a day to his duties as commissioner, the founder of Neighbors for Justice said in a local newspaper article. “It’s not just about a historic election, with a first-ever ANC commissioner who is incarcerated,” said Julie Johnson, the group’s founder. “It’s about giving a voice and visibility to a population that is unseen.” In the same story Caston says that he feels “presidential” after winning the election. On its website Neighbors for Justice congratulates Caston, writing that he will serve as the ward’s inaugural commissioner and confirming that the murderer received 48 of the 142 votes cast in the “historic election.” The note proudly announces that “all five candidates in this election are in residence at the DC jail.”

While they celebrate the election triumph of a convicted murderer, homicides in D.C. are on pace to shatter records. Last year the rate hit a 16-year high and in 2021 it is expected to be worse, according to Metropolitan Police Department data. The figures show homicides are already up 13% from last year.

This is really a step forward for a society free of hate, where a man is judged not by how many people he’s murdered, but by the color of his skin.

Black people and black murderers are intelligent and responsible citizens, and putting them in charge of things is really going to help society – a lot.

The incredible thing about South Africa is how it still manages to chug along, despite all the factors pulling it down.

With just a few hundred thousand White managers, the country is still able to almost hold on and gracefully spiral into crime and poverty without the blood-soaked race war that everyone expected.

A leading member of South Africa’s ruling party has stirred controversy as he called on the country’s black population not to vote for white candidates. RT has asked a local politician and activist to weigh in.

With even members of his own party condemning the decision to “campaign along race lines,” the pressure is mounting against African National Congress secretary-general Ace Magashule. He has already found himself at the wrong end of a number of corruption scandals and has now been slammed for his “racist” remark.

To this day, most Whites in South Africa still hope that there’s a chance for peace and multiculturalism to flourish as long as the extremists like Ace “Pet Detective” Magashule are kept out of power. These people are chumps and cucks and will never start the RaHoWa that everyone is hoping for. I always used to feel pity for South Africans and their plight, but as I learned more about the situation, my feelings quickly turned to revulsion.

Self-described “disillusioned left wing South African” Helen Heldenmuth sees this outlook is destructive, and not the opinion of the majority. Having been arrested for raising black children during apartheid, she believes that the solution has to move beyond black and white. According to her, comments like Magashule’s don’t help to “mend” the damage from the past, and only serve to further divide society along racial lines.

South Africa has it’s uses though I suppose.

Whenever anyone in the extended West says that racism can’t be ever done to White people, everyone can just point to South Africa and make a smug face.

A small consolation, perhaps. But it’s something.

South Africa’s president has declared it is time to ‘correct a past wrong’ by seizing land from white farmers – and a £10million family ranch is among his first targets.

President Cyril Ramaphosa wants to take lands from white farmers without compensation and redistribute them to black farmers to make up for the injustice of apartheid.

He said at a farmers’ conference on Monday that land reform was necessary to ‘correct a past wrong.’

‘It has required that we confront the injustices of the past, acknowledge our weaknesses and shortcomings, and seek a sustainable path towards a just and inclusive future,’ Ramaphosa said.

‘This is the time for South Africans to find each other, not fight each other.’

Since the 1994 end of apartheid – a system of racial segregation – the South African ruling party has followed a ‘willing-seller, willing-buyer’ model under which the government buys white-owned farms for redistribution to black farmers.

But progress has been slow and it appears Ramaphosa wants to more vigorously force the pace of change.

His government has begun the process of seizing farms where negotiations over compensation have failed.

And it gets better.

Johan Steenkamp and Arnold Cloete, co-owners of the Akkerland Boerdery hunting farm in Limpopo province, said they were ordered to hand over their land after talks to buy it at a tenth of the price broke down.

Steenkamp and Cloete asked for 200million rand (£10.7million) for their reserve but were only offered 20million rand (£1.07million).

A letter they received earlier in the year said: ‘Notice is hereby given that a terrain inspection will be held on the farms on April 5, 2018 at 10am in order to conduct an audit of the assets and a handover of the farm’s keys to the state.’

The farmers have obtained an injunction, which was opposed by the government, to prevent eviction until a court rules on the case.

Mr Steenkamp told Newsweek that the decision to take his land was made on ‘very short notice’ during a public holiday.

He said he was given notice to hand the keys over to his farm within seven days.

The official account of ANC’s parliamentary caucus was forced to delete a tweet that appeared to suggest that white people are murderers. The statement provoked an outcry and has since been disowned.

The controversial tweet published by @ANCParliament account last Thursday read: “The biggest mistake we are making is to consult murderers. White people are 9% of the population, they own 79% of land. They never came and consulted us for the land. If they want us to forgive them now, then let us share the land, the mineral resources.”

The gaffe comes as the country is considering an amendment to the national constitution, which would allow the expropriation of land from owners with no compensation. Announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last week, the legal change is likely to target the white minority, which has owned most of the country’s land since colonial times.

The ANC said that the tweets were meant to be quotes from members of the public, but this was not made clear. They presumably originate from public hearings held by the ANC to debate the proposed amendment. 

These guys are pretty openly telegraphing their intentions to genocide the farmers to everyone who will listen.

I never thought it would get so bad so quickly, but here we are. I do wonder what the Boer are going to do about it.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has said the ruling African National Congress must initiate a parliamentary process to enshrine in the constitution a proposed amendment, paving the way for land grabs without compensation. Ramaphosa, who vowed to return the lands owned by the white farmers since the 1600s to the country’s black population after he assumed office in February this year, said on Tuesday that the ANC would introduce a constitutional amendment in parliament.

“The ANC will through the parliamentary process finalize the proposed amendment to the constitution that outlines more clearly the conditions under which expropriation of land without compensation can be effected,” Ramaphosa, a prominent trade union leader and a close associate of Nelson Mandela, said in a televised address on Tuesday.

The millionaire ex-businessman argued that “it has become pertinently clear that our people want the constitution to be more explicit” about the proposal, which is viewed by the South African white minority as forceful expulsion that can incite violence against farmers. 

Yikes.

It doesn’t get more explicit than that.

And once they take away these people’s land, where will they put them, assuming they don’t kill them outright?

However, many of the Boers, descendants of Dutch settlers in South Africa, do not take the government’s promises at face value, instead seeking asylum abroad from what they say is a surge in violence and government-fueled hostility against them.

Last month, a call from Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton to provide emergency visas for South Africa’s white farmers, who are reportedly facing persecution at home, sparked a diplomatic scandal, with the head of the South African opposition labeling Australia “a racist country” for granting refuge to white farmers both in the Mandela era and now.

Boers have also appealed to Russia, seeking to resettle farmers who no longer feel at home in South Africa. A delegation consisting of some 30 South African farming families arrived in Russia’s farm belt Stavropol Region last month, asking the local authorities to consider resettling up to 15,000 Boers.

Moving “is a matter of life and death” for them the head of the delegation told the media.

The region’s Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights Vladimir Poluboyarenko told RT earlier there is a plan in place to resettle up to 50 Boer families and potentially some 500, who would arrive to Stavropol with their own cattle.

Well it’s really gaining steam at this point isn’t it?

And I’m not even sure what all the details of this are…I mean, so some rich farmers are going to try and make a run for Russia…but surely not everyone’s going to be able to get out in time?

Are they really going to abandon their own people to make a run for it? Is there nobody stockpiling weapons and preparing?

Short of the US or Russia moving in with a peacekeeping mission Black Hawk Down style, there’s no help coming for these people. How long will they have to wait for asylum requests in Australia or Russia to be processed? Will the black government cooperate?

No real surprise here.  New statistics indicate that South Africa’s White population is shrinking. In total there are now 70,000 less White people in South Africa versus 2011.

The newest Statistics SA report shows that Mzanzi’s white population is getting smaller, with more than 70 000 less white people in SA in 2016 than what was recorded in the 2011 census.

BusinessTech reports that SA’s population grew by more than 800 000 people in the last year alone, and, according to StatsSA, our population grew by more than 15 million since 1996… for the most part.

SA’s total population currently sits at 55.7 million people of which 4 516 691 are white people, compared to 4 586 838 back in 2011, a 1.5% decline in population size, making it the only population group in South Africa with a negative growth pattern.

South Africa’s black population has increased from 41 000 938 to 44 891 603 in the same time, the coloured population increased from 4 615 401 to 4 869 526 and the Indian community grew from 1 286 930 to 1 375 834 between 2011 and 2016.

So begins the latest situation report on South Africa issued by the TAU-SA, the oldest agricultural union in South Africa. Founded in 1897, the TAU describes its mission as the promotion of a “productive and safe existence for its members on the land they own,”—an objective, the organization notes, which is currently not achievable.

The situation report, part of the TAU-SA’s international news service, continues:

The ANC and its followers have reverted to type. Violence gets them what they want or what they think they want. The more compromise and concessions given, the more demands are made and more violence ensues.  Violence works for the ANC—it always has. It’s a tried and tested recipe that delivers every time. And after the violence, after the lust has been satiated, after the racial hatred has been slaked and the resentment played out, then what?

This question is being asked by many South Africans as they witness yet again the mindless Khmer Rouge-type vandalism that has become the hallmark of many young Africans “demanding” everything under the sun, whether they want it or not. A free-for-all lawlessness has gripped the country: unbridled mayhem has become a modus operandi, and everyone and everything is fair game.

The seeds of this mindless fury were sown many moons ago. Historically the ANC used violence as a means to obtain the political rights which they declare were denied them by the British and later white South Africa. South Africa has been particularly convulsed by revolutionary violence since the early sixties. Late seventies and mid-eighties’ terrorism increased in barbarity and brutality. It was hallmarked by its own particular savagery: the relentless intimidation of blacks who would not join their revolution and a grotesque cruelty which out Mau-Mau’d the Mau Mau. The ANC called it “a people’s war”. It targeted not only policemen and soldiers but also local councilors, “collaborators,” “informers” and all “puppets of the regime”. The aim was to render South Africa ungovernable and to ultimately overthrow all authority. The seeds of violence as an effective political tool were planted.

In 1990, Nelson Mandela was released from prison, the ANC was unbanned and negotiations began for universal suffrage. To all intents and purposes, the violence should have stopped. Its raison d’etre no longer existed. The demands had been met. Or so we thought.

Violence however intensified. In his book The Secret Revolution, the National Party’s Intelligence chief Neil Barnard tells of how former prime minister P W Botha pleaded with Nelson Mandela to renounce violence as a condition of his release. Mandela refused. He declared that practical negotiations should begin as soon as possible. “Then the momentum of the process will make violence superfluous”. How wrong he was. Or did he know he was offering Botha a pie in the sky?

The rest as they say is history. After Mandela’s February 1990 release, violence increased fourfold. It continued even after the United Democratic Front (the internal wing of the once-banned ANC) was disbanded in August 1991. Some 9,500 people died between February 1990 and April 1994, an average of 300 per month compared to a monthly average of 90 from September 1984 to February 1990.

The use by the UDF of the necklace method of torture and death (where a rubber tire is placed around a person’s neck, filled with petrol and set alight) decreased during the 1986 state of emergency but increased after Mandela was released, and increased further in 1992. Declares John Kane Berman in his book Political Violence in South Africa: “The investment in terror pays off because people learn to behave in ways expected of them”. This tactic harks back to the Soviet KGB and the Gulags.

Terror campaigns against black local authorities were part of an overall strategy to achieve the collapse of apartheid, writes Kane Berman. These campaigns rendered black areas ungovernable and were strategies created by the UDF at its formation in 1983. “In 1990 (after Mandela’s release) the campaigns were stepped up”. (So much for the swindle punted by Mandela to Prime Minister Botha that violence would become “superfluous” once negotiations were under way!)

In a 1990 editorial the black newspaper City Press blamed black youth for their “political immaturity in introducing the necklace method of killing and going on the rampage, stoning and burning houses.” The then secretary general of the ANC, Alfred Nzo, said that “collaborators must be eliminated”. Asked by the Sunday Times of London whether this included necklacing, Nzo nodded emphatically: “If they decide to use necklacing, we support it”.

Not once during his premiership did Nelson Mandela ever condemn necklacing, let alone the relentless violence perpetrated by his supporters. Indeed it was his party’s policy to keep up the violence until power was handed over to the ANC. Few young South Africans who were born after the end of apartheid know the history of this era. They only see the endless puff-piece books on bookstore shelves lauding those who had previously made South Africa practically ungovernable.

The ANC-sanctioned violence of those days against the previous government is being repeated today under an ANC government. It is the same mindless gangsterism. Any chance to go to the streets and tear something apart is taken up with alacrity, whatever the so-called causes.

The true background of the ANC is being slowly eliminated from a history whose realities, were they available to present-day South Africa, might explain this mindless mayhem now being perpetrated under the guise of demands for better education, or free housing, or service delivery.

In any sane country, farmers would be cherished. After all, what is more basic than three meals a day? In South Africa, the malice shown towards the commercial farming sector is so patent that it can only be attributed to an illogical animosity and resentment rooted in a huge (but justified) inferiority complex. After all, what sort of agriculture existed before whites arrived in South Africa?  The ANC cannot face an “inconvenient truth”, as the movie title says.  Can the ANC feed SA’s population of 53 million?

From 1990 to 2015, 1785 farmers were murdered and 3,745 farms were attacked. In January 2016, six farmers were murdered and there were 26 attacks. In many of these cases, the murders can be termed atrocities. Newspaper pages are replete with reports of knifings, hackings with pangas, suffocations, rapes of farmers’ wives and daughters, burning with hot irons, and worse.

In addition to this onslaught, the government tinkers with expropriation legislation, with plans to take 50 per cent of many farms to give to “the workers”, and farmers are burdened with the myriad legislative inhibitions already placed on them. Land grabs have increased as squatters take possession of “unoccupied” land.

South Africa’s endemic violence has affected the SA economy. During the 1960s there was an annual growth rate of 6 per cent. This halved in the 1970s and halved again in the 1980s. In the 1970s, even while facing terrorism, riots and involvement in a border war with the Cubans in Angola, the SA rand was stronger than the US dollar. In Mandela’s first four years as president, the rand lost 80 per cent of its value and more than 2,8 million man days were lost to strikes. The national debt also doubled under Mandela’s presidency.

The ANC has reaped what it has sown.
