An Ohio firefighter killed his fiancée before taking his own life.

Officers were called to a house on Brittain Road in Akron around 2 a.m. Thursday after the victim’s 11-year-old daughter called 911. The girl reported that her mother Olivia “Liv” Hamey, 35, and her fiancé, Twinsburg firefighter Demetrius T’Juan Butler, 35, had been in an argument before she heard the sounds of gunshots. She found her mother unresponsive in the basement.

Hamey’s seven-year-old son was also in the home at the time of the shooting.

Edwards says a motive is unclear.

“We don’t know what they were arguing over,” he says.

The couple had been engaged since Dec. 2017, according to a posting on Hamey’s Facebook page.

According to the Canton Repository, soon after the shooting, Butler’s mother called 911 and told dispatchers that her son called her and admitted to killing Hamey.

The woman told the dispatcher that Butler had the gun with him and planned to take his own life.

The wife of an Alabama man gunned down outside a grocery store on Atlanta’s east side said she was expecting anything but the news she got when lawmen showed up at her Hayden home.

Kathy Richey, whose husband Josh Richey was slain during a robbery Tuesday outside a Kroger on Ponce de Leon Avenue, said she had just spoken with her husband an hour before his death. “Nothing like that ever crossed my mind,” Kathy Richey told AL.com.

She lost her 19-year-old son so her first thought went to the 10-year-old daughter she and her husband shared. “I asked if my daughter was Ok because she was at school,” she said. “He said, ‘Your daughter is fine. It’s your husband. Your husband has been murdered.”

Police have said Josh Richey, 38, caught the shooter trying to break into his work truck. He was the superintendent for a construction company. Josh Richey’s co-worker, Jason Shelton, said the two were working at the store when Josh Richey spotted an unknown man inside their pickup truck. Shelton said Josh Richey approached the truck and the man inside shot through the window, hitting him in the chest and killing him. The two suspects then fled the scene.

Shelton said he dropped to the ground to escape harm. “I rolled over, just prayed to God I didn’t get shot,” he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Shelton said he chased after the getaway vehicle but was unable to get a license tag number. He called 911 and went back to help Joshua Richey, performing CPR.

Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton called it a crime of opportunity. Police are looking for a black BMW 3 Series with tinted windows and possibly a dealer drive-out tag that was occupied by two men.

The Kroger Co. announced today a $25,000 reward for leads in the killing. Friends of the family have set up a fund drive online and at Traditions Bank in Hayden. Josh Richey had three children from a previous marriage in addition to his 10-year-old daughter.

Kathy Richey said she is still reeling from her husband’s death. “A good man was taken for no reason,” she said. “My daughter no longer has a father, and I no longer have a husband. It’s tearing our family apart.”

“He was my world,” she said. “I don’t even know how I’m going to make it without him.”

She said the two met 13 years ago at a payphone because Kathy Richey’s phone had died. Josh Richey, who went to high school in Warrior, and one of his friends stopped and the rest, she said, is history. “He told me that night, ‘you’re going to be my wife,”’ she said. “I just laughed.”

After following up on tips and evidence collected, police have made an arrest in the murder of an Akron man from earlier this month.

Detectives have signed charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary on Akeeme AJ Hayes, 23.

Akron Police say on Jan. 5 shortly after 5 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of East Exchange Street for a homicide. The caller, an acquaintance, called police and stated he went over to the victim’s residence/business to borrow the victim’s phone. The caller said the rear door was forced open. When he went inside, he found the victim, Patrick J. Feeney, 54, unresponsive on the floor in the living area with his hands taped behind his back.

According to police, Feeney died of an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Police say Hayes was friends with Feeney. Detectives say they lived a few blocks away from each other.

Hayes is currently in the Summit County Jail on unrelated weapons and drug charges.

An Akron man has been sentenced to life in prison for the beating death of a homeless woman.

Tyrone Benford, 42, had pleaded guilty to two counts of murder, felonious assault and breaking and entering. All counts were felonies.

Lori Patch, 53, was found dead Oct. 4, 2013, behind a Dumpster at 207 E. South St.

After finding Patch, police responded to a break-in at a mosque at 1147 Old Main St. and found Benford inside.

He was found to have Patch’s blood on his shoes.

Patch was found to have died from blunt force trauma to her face, head and neck. The investigation did not reveal Benford’s motive for the killing.

Benford will be eligible for parole after 15 years in prison, according to the Summit County prosecutor’s office.

The Summit County jury deliberating in the trial for Shawn Ford has found the Akron man guilty on two counts of aggravated murder.

The panel began deciding the fate of the 18-year-old on Monday and reached a verdict two days later.

Ford was on trial for murdering his girlfriend’s parents, Jeffrey and Margaret Schobert, in their New Franklin home.

They were found beaten to death with a sledgehammer in their Rex Lake Drive home on April 2, 2013.

Ford was dating the Schobert’s adopted daughter, Chelsea. He is also accused of assaulting Chelsea on March 23, 2013 at a home in Akron.

Ford was indicted on numerous charges including aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary,grand theft, and felonious assault.

Ford is now facing the death penalty.

It is unclear when that phase of the trial will start.

A shocking video has emerged of a young man callously kicking a cat through the air, while he and his friend filming the incident laughed.

More than 5,000 people have signed a petition urging police in Akron, Ohio, to find and prosecute the man.

Thankfully for the cat, it reverted to type and landed on its feet.

Police are investigating after local broadcaster NewsNet5 contacted officers, who received a petition calling on them to arrest the cat-kicker for animal cruelty.

The petition says: ‘He didn’t show any sort of regret, as he and his buddies were having a big laugh about what just happened. You can also imagine that the cat didn’t enjoy this!’
